  • These young women are getting water from Lake Victoria, very close to the source of the Nile. It is about one kilometer from their village and they will carry the "jerry cans" on their heads back to the village where the water will be used for cooking, drinking, clothes washing, and personal hygiene. They may make this trip several times each day. Younger children will carry smaller jerry cans.

  • This woman selling okra was near Keta where ProLink, an NGO we were volunteering with, and we, had developed a project to plant coconut and acacia trees along the beach in order to reclaim land being washed into the sea and also to provide food, firewood, and building material to the local population for use and for sale. We were able to raise enough funds to plant 10,000 trees to add to the 2,700 that ProLink had previously planted.
