Selverani worked as a "servant" in the house where the NGIO, R.I.D. E. is located. She is a "Dalit" (untouchable), and has been taken in by the family that manages R.I.D.E., and basicallyt became a family member. When this photo was taken she was about 22, and shortly therreafter, her 45 year old uncle with two children, whose wife recently died, declared that she would have to become his wife. Selverani had no choice but to accept. R.I.D.E.'s mission is to help end child labor in the silk sari weaving industry of Kanchipurim.
